When Splash, the former world record blue catfish from Lake Texoma, died at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens back in December 2005, thousands of anglers, parents and school kids mourned. Researchers, who made a fiberglass replica mount and cleaned up the whiskerfish's skeleton with the help of 10,000 dermestid beetles, found out that the giant catfish was at least 23 years old when she went to the big shad-filled reservoir in the sky.
