A culinary arts competition was held Friday at Grayson College. Local students took home top prizes in both pastry and savory categories.

Winning a $1,000 scholarship was Gainesville High School student Melanie Jaramillo for first place in the pastry division. Second place went to Isabel Gomez of North Lamar High School, and third place went to Morgan Hicks. The pair earned $750 and $500 respectively. In the savory category, Tessa Cooper of Van Alstyne High School earned $1,000 for first place. In second and third place were Eliza Thompson and Wiley Quillan who also earned $750 and $500 respectively.
