Denison Service League

Lena Weger, volunteer coordinator for the Grayson Crisis Center, was guest speaker at the March 4 meeting of the Denison Service League (DSL).

Weger explained that the center is dedicated to providing a safe haven, crisis intervention and comprehensive support services to victims of family violence and sexual assault. Another center mission is to break the cycle of family and sexual violence through community education while assisting victims in their transition to a more stable, self-sufficient life.

The Denison Service League has dedicated the month of March to the Crisis Center and will be donating household products to benefit the center and families being helped.

During a business session, a list of charities to receive allowcations this year from the DSL was presented to the members for approval. These allocations will be presented to the various charities on April 12 at the DSL Spring Luncheon.

The by-laws changes presented to the membership in February were approved, as was the new slate of officers.

Plans have begun for a DSL fundraising event, Dancing with the Stars, set for Sept. 27. Special meetings will be held monthly to prepare for the event.
