Sherman Community Garden

The Sherman Community Garden group held its monthly meeting this week at the United Way offices in Sherman.

Minutes of the last meeting were presented by Allen Shaw, secretary. Jack Mealy, treasurer, reported on the budget and funds for the year and Joshua Bayless, a local Boy Scout, made a monetary donation for a sign to be erected at the community garden.

Attendees planned a work day for Feb. 22 with the Boy Scout Troop 66. The scouts will be working for four hours to earn their merit badges.

Richard Bayless, community garden coordinator, discussed a request from the Grand Central Station soup kitchen in Sherman. Kitchen operators want to begin a garden on an empty lot and have asked for assistance. Bayless and another representative of the Sherman Community Garden group will be meeting with kitchen representatives in the near future.

The next monthly meeting will be on March 4. The public is welcomed to take part in the Feb. 22 work day or to attend the March meeting.
