Sellers wins competition

DALLAS — Tiffany Sellers, a senior at Ector High School, won first place with her vocal performance in the special talent competition Jan. 11 at the State Beta Convention in Dallas. This is the second consecutive year Ector has won first place in the special talent competition.

Tiffany, who plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington, will now be competing at the National Beta Convention to be held in June at Richmond, Virginia. She is the daughter of Chris and LeAnn Sellers of Ector and the granddaughter of Tommy and Betty Sellers of Ector and Philip and Jimmie Nell Wilhelm of Savoy.

Trout derby Saturday

The 10th annual Family Fellowship Trout Derby is set for this Saturday at Waterloo Lake-Pond in Denison. The derby is sponsored by the Denison Parks and Recreation Department and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The derby is open to everyone and fishing will be from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Prizes will be given for the largest, smallest and heaviest stringer (five fish limit), and there will be two age divisions - 17 and older and 16 and younger. Prizes will also be awarded for the first five golden/tagged trout daught during the derby. In addition to the derby, there will be a casting contest, door prizes and more.

The cost to participate is as follows: resident adult, $7; non-resident adult, $10; resident youth, $5; and non-resident youth, $7. A free beanie cap will be given to the first 50 registered participants.

Senior dance

WHITESBORO — A "40-plus Senior Citizens Dance" will be held from 7 p.m. untl 10 p.m. this Friday at the Jimmie O Rector Whitesboro Community Center, 400 Wilson Street. Free refreshments will be served at half-time.

Providing live music will be the Night Hawks.

There is no smoking allowed inside the building and no alcohol allowed on the premises.
