WHITESBORO — A 40-plus dance will be held this Friday, 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., at the Jimmie O. Rector Community Center, 400 Wilson Street in Whitesboro. This will be a Valentine’s Day celebration.
Providing live music will be Doug Martin and The Rustlers.
Free refreshments will be available at half-time. No alcohol is allowed on the premises and there is no smoking inside the building.
TOM BEAN — The Dairyland Donkey Basketball Show will be held on Feb. 8 at the Tom Bean High School. The event begins at 7 p.m. and proceeds will go to the high school’s junior class to help with expenses of the junior-senior prom.
Local basketball players will be riding the donkeys — Honeypot, Earthquake, Hemorrhoid, Elvis and Ex-Lax — and playing basketball. There will also be performances by Buckmaster, the comedy donkey. During intermission, free donkey rides will be offered to youngers under age 12 who must be accompanied by a parent.
Concession snacks will be available and attendees can purchase in advance a hamburger meal for $6.
Advance tickets to the game are $6 and available at the high school office or from a high school junior student. Admission at the gate is $8. Pre-schoolers are admitted free of charge.

Romance in Bonham
BONHAM — A variety of published romance authors will be featured on Feb. 8 at the Bonham Public Library during the annual romance writers event. The program is jointly sponsored by the library and the Bonham Romance Readers Book Club. It begins at 11 a.m. at the library, 305 East 5th Street.
Writers who will be briefly discussing their work include Kathleen Baldwin, Vicki Batman, Carolyn Brown, Suzanne Ferrell, Tessa Gray, Michelle Miles, Janis Susan May, Sabine Starr and Kay Sisk. Following their presentations, attendees will be able to visit with the authors and some will have their books available for purchase.

BONHAM — The Bonham Creative Art Center’s "Valentine Mystery Dinner," originally scheduled for Feb. 14, has been postponed until a later date. Advisories of the new date will be sent out as soon as plans are finalized.
