DALLAS — Riley Neal, a senior at Savoy High School, received the National Beta Club’s John W. Harris Leadership Award at the recent Texas Beta Club Convention in Dallas. The award is the highest honor presented by the National Beta Club and is awarded each year to 25 Junior Betas and 25 Senior Betas. It goes to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service. As part of the award, Riley is invited to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference this summer in South Carolina.
Riley has been a Beta Club member for six years and served as Texas state president this past year. He is the son of Brian and Meredith Neal of Savoy and the grandson of Patsy Neal of Luella and Suzanne Rackley of Van Alstyne.
The National Beta Club was founded by Dr. John W. Harris, a professor at Wofford Colleege in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The first Beta Club was formed in Landrum, South Carolina in 1934, and the organization has since been committed to recognizing and promoting high academic achievement, encouraging service to others and developing character and leadership skills.
