Tom and Shirley Colwell of Sherman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a private, family dinner last week. Hosts were their children.

Tom and Shirley Colwell of Sherman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a private, family dinner last week. Hosts were their children.


The Colwells were married on July 23, 1965 in the chapel at Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Officiating was Chaplain Charles E. Seastrunk, Captain USAF. Best man and matron of honor were Bob and Betty Branch of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Groomsman was Robert James Wilson IV, brother of Shirley Colwell.


Shirley Colwell was born in Port Arthur, the daughter of R.J. and Lucile Wilson. She attended Lamar State College in Beaumont and North Texas State University in Denton and was employed in the Grayson County district clerk’s office.


Tom Colwell was born in Greenville, the son of O.T. and Katie Colwell. He attended Gainesville College in Gainesville and Texas A&M University at College Station and was employed with Texas Instruments for 31 years.


Both are members of Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman.


The Colwell’s children are Robert Thomas and Audrey Colwell in McKinney and Franklin Edwin and Karla Colwell in Sherman. They have four grandchildren.
