As we close out what feels like the 100th week of social isolation, I started trying to figure out what it was going to take to get me through until this thing is over. And, I started wondering what I could do to help others who might be struggling the way I am with all of this.
I don't guess it would take a genius to deduce that newspaper reporters are people people. I don't think I ever thought about how much of a people person I was until all of this stuff started and I found myself not seeing very many people on a daily basis. For more than 20 years, I have spent my weekdays, and many weekends, in the thick of the people of this county. And suddenly finding myself restricted to the ones I could talk to on the phone daily has been a rude switch in my humble opinion. I completely understand the reasoning for it change and I applaud my employers for quickly switching to the safest possible working environment both for our staff and our customers. But that doesn't mean it has been easy.
So, I was sitting thinking about how I could tackle this last part of it in a way that would help to lift my spirits and those of the people I talk to most often. And the answer won't surprise anyone. I decided that my social media posts for each day will start with a song of the day, a sort of theme for that day. Any guesses who will be singing those songs?
Anyone who said Bon Jovi should treat themselves to an ice cream cone later on today. Or maybe they should try some Bongiovi pasta sauce (made by the Jon Bon Jovi's father and brothers) or a glass of Hampton Water (a wine made by the singer's son) to celebrate.
Luckily, for me, this particular band has released enough albums over the years that I won't have to repeat songs for a while and can pick them based on my moods or the particulars of the day. To see my song of the day or tell me about yours, follow me on twitter at @jlwhiteley. I would love to follow you back.
