Bahá’ís of Sherman, Denison to mark 200th anniversary of birth of the Báb

SHERMAN — Bahá’ís of Sherman and Denison will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Ba’b with a dinner from 5:30-8 p.m. at Austin College in Sherman.

Adherents to the Bahá’í faith hold that the Ba’b is the prophet and herald of the Bahá’í faith. He announced, in the mid-1800s, he was the bearer of a message destined to transform humanity’s spiritual life. His mission was to prepare the way for Bahá’u’lláh, who would usher in an age of unity, peace and justice.

“Now more than ever, we need positive models of social change that bring people together rather than divide them,” spokesperson for the local Baha’i community, Louise King Said wrote in an email.

The 2019 bicentenary is an ongoing series of community-building activities generated at the grassroots level all around the country. The events reinforce Bahá’u’lláh’s vision of the oneness of humanity, empowering people of every background to participate.
