Putting a special meaning behind this year’s Independence Day celebration in Denison, a U.S. Marine veteran and his group will be performing at Munson Stadium on July 4th. Texas native Scott Brown and his group, the Scooter Brown Band will take the stage at 7 p.m.

Even with the change of venue, this free concert is a part of Denison’s summer concert series Music on Main.

“After four years and three months, two tours overseas with one tour of combat in Iraq as a United States Marine, Scott Brown traded his guns in for guitars and hit the road,” the band’s site says about how the group got its start. “Scooter Brown Band was formed and began playing mainly in and around Houston, Texas.”

The group’s influences include Charlie Daniels Band, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakam, Lee Roy Parnell and Marshall Tucker Band. Band members include Brown, Nathan Lockhart, Steven Sutherland, Matt Bledsoe, and Carrigan Shields.

“Defined as modern southern rock the band released American Son in late 2017 and was named Rolling Stone Country Artist to Watch,” the band site says. “Brown was featured as a finalist on USA Network’s ‘Real Country in 2018 and was awarded Male Vocalist of the Year at the 3rd Annual Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards presented by iHeartRadio.”

The group’s debut album, “American Son” was released in 2017 and includes songs, “American Son,” “Huntsville,” “When the Whiskey Starts Talkin,” “Texas Kinda Way” and “Never Met a Heart I Wouldn’t Break.”

After the performance, the city will put on its annual fireworks show.

Music on Main will continue July 12 with Ghost Dance Band performing at Heritage Park.
