Dallas church names former Sherman resident pastor emeritus


DALLAS — Wheatland United Methodist Church of Dallas has named former Sherman resident Sandra Minor and the new pastor emeritus. Minor will be honored during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday and at a reception to follow.


Minor is a former student of Fred Douglas High School and a graduate of Sherman High School. She is the daughter of Mildred Jackson of Sherman.


Wheatland United Methodist Church is located at 8000 Hampton Road in Dallas.


Mt. Olive Baptist Church honors pastor with service


DENISON — Mt. Olive Baptist Church will hold its sixth pastoral appreciation celebration for its Pastor Alton E. Blakely at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday.


The theme will be “Called with a Purpose,” based on Jeremiah 1:5-9.


The Rev. Lee Edwards of Kingdom Life Fellowship Church in McKinney will speak at 11 a.m. and the Rev. Craig Davis of Progressive Baptist Church in Sherman will speak at 3 p.m.

Progressive Missionary Baptist Church holds annual program, choir workshop


SHERMAN — Progressive Missionary Baptist Church will hold it missions and prayer warriors annual day program at 11 a.m. Sunday.


Ministers of Progressive Tag Teaming of the Word of God will be the speakers.


The church will also hold its choir workshop from 7-9 p.m. May 3 and from 10 a.m. to noon May 4. Minister of Music Tristin Love will be the guest clinician.


Registration fee for the choir workshop is $10. Participants are asked to RSVP by Monday.

DENISON — Mt. Vernon Baptist Church will host its annual Friends and Family Day program at 3 p.m. Sunday. An occasion speech, pew decorations and fun will be included.


The speaker will be Pastor James Thorne of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church in Denison. The theme will be, “Love thy neighbor as thyself” from Matthew 22:37-39. Churches and choirs are invited to join in fellowship.

WHITEWRIGHT — First Missionary Baptist Church will hold its homecoming services at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.


The theme will be “Celebrating our Church,” based on Psalm 126:3.

TRENTON — The women’s society of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church will hold its annual women’s seminar beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.


Speakers from Bonham, Leonard, Dallas and Oklahoma will be featured. An evangelist Beverly Jenkins of Garland will be the minister of music.

DENISON — Church Women United of Grayson County will meet at New Hope Christian Church for its meeting and luncheon May 3. The theme is, “The time is now. Agree to Differ.”


A meet and greet will begin at 9 a.m. The meeting at 9:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon. Those staying for lunch are asked to bring a covered dish.
