The average cost of a wedding in Grayson County is on the rise. In the last five years, the average wedding cost has increased by $2,000, and from current trends, the amount couples, families and friends are paying for the chance to say “I do” is not going down anytime soon.

According to The Wedding Report, there were 806 weddings in Grayson County in 2017, and the average wedding cost then was $24,016. Back in 2013, the average wedding cost was just $22,200.

In the recent past, the years with the most Grayson County weddings were 2012, which had 1,009 events, and 2008, which had 1,024 weddings.

In comparison to the rest of the state, Grayson County is not far behind in wedding costs. According to The Wedding Report, there were 157,577 weddings in Texas in 2017, and the average cost was $24,016. That number is expected to increase to $25,154 by 2022.

More than 45 percent of Grayson County weddings are more than $10,000, with 10 percent more than $30,000.

For the state, there was a $4,000 jump in wedding costs from 2017. The 2013 average was $25,313.

Taking it even further, in the United States, the average cost of a wedding in 2017 was $25,764, and there were 2.1 million people that wed during the time period.

One big difference between how Texas fairs and how the country fares is that wedding cost overall is on the decline. While in 2013 the average wedding in the US was around $25,200, the average wedding cost in 2017 was only about $500 more.

The Wedding Report says that average cost was increasing up until 2016 when the average wedding cost was $26,700. Then 2017 saw a big turn going down about $1,100.

Since these are averages, that means there were many weddings above these price points as there were below.

Most popular seasons

It is no surprise that a lot of people become engaged during the month of December. In 2017, about 15 percent of the couples chose that month to begin the wedding planning process. The average length of engagements was 16 months.

The Wedding Report also proved when the most popular season for weddings is. About 12 percent of weddings are held in June with almost 10 percent being held in April, May, and October. The next most popular months are March, July, and August. The least popular months are January and February, which both saw less than five percent of knots tied.

Another big factor for many couples is the number of guests to have at an event. That influences budget greatly, and unsurprisingly, the more guests, the more the wedding will cost.

For weddings in Grayson County that had less than 25 attendees, couples spent just over $10,000. And for those that had more than 300 guests, the bill was a bit over $70,000. The majority of weddings reviewed in the report had between 50-150 guests and a cost of about $16,794-22,234.

What to wear

The first glimpse of wedding style often happens when the bridal party enters the ceremony space. For area brides, the average spending on the party was $1,193, and the median spending was $863.

That means brides cannot forget accessories for the individuals in their wedding party. There were about 17 weddings in 2017 that spent $5,000 on accessories for the wedding party members. And, the average cost that Grayson County brides spent was between $501-1,000. About 230 brides paid that price for items like dresses, tuxedos, jewelry for the party, shoes and other items.

And the attire costs just keep adding up. For men, the average suit rental is about $204, and local 2017 grooms spent about $138,000 all together on their duds for the big day.

As for women, attire is far more costly, and the gown or gowns are generally purchased, meaning they can be sold to recoup a portion of the price. The average bride spent about $1,200 on her wedding gown, and for the year, combined area brides spent almost $900,000 on wedding dresses. That means the wedding attire industry in Grayson County could have brought in over $1 million if couples purchased all their nuptial outfits in the area.

The reception

The culmination of the day generally ends with a party for family and friends. The reception includes food and drinks, catering staff, the venue and transportation for the wedding party as well as the bride and groom. To help the bride and groom coordinate everything for the entire day, the wedding planner first has to be worked into the budget.

On average, couples in this area are paying about $800 to an event planner who helps gather vendors of different types. A day-of coordinator will run the same amount of money, but it may be worth it to just have one person perform all planning services. That will run about $2,700 for a full service coordinator who stays with the couple from start to finish, including making sure everything moves smoothly through the rehearsal the night before, the ceremony and the reception.

While many couples think that it is okay to cut costs on the food at a wedding, generally that portion of the affair takes up a good percentage of the budget. Between bar service and food at the reception, as well as the rehearsal dinner, couples are spending about $7,000 in Grayson County. That does not include the wedding cake, which adds another $400 to the budget.

Coming in at $2,237 in average bar service costs, vendors made about $1.2 million from providing services at weddings in 2017. And, coming in at $4,399, vendors generally made about $2.8 million for providing food service at the county’s weddings.

Also included in the receptions costs, couples may have their event at a separate location from their ceremony. On average in 2017, the location cost couples $3,400, and rentals for the event ran about $1,600. Neither of those costs include the transportation to and from the reception, which could cost around $480.

Not to be left off the list, The Wedding Report says that in Grayson County, the average couple spent about $297 on their hotel room after the reception before jet setting away to the honeymoon to start their life together.
