While this may be another wet weekend in Texoma, that does not mean that weekend fun will be washed away. There will be plenty to do on Friday and Saturday. Join Sherman Parks and Rec for a hike or the city of Denison for some parking on Friday. On Saturday, there will be a festival at Loy Lake as well as the Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site in Bonham. There will also be a gaming tournament at the Denison Library. So if you are brave enough to get out in the rain, here are five activities that will not be affected by the weather.
1. Take a hike
Join Sherman Parks and Rec on Friday for a family night hike at Herman Baker Park in Sherman. The hike will be from 7:20-9 p.m. The hike is moderately challenging and it is suggested that individuals wear comfortable shoes and the use of strollers is discouraged. Glow sticks will be given to children before the event. For more information, call 903-893-7344.
2. Parking day
The city of Denison wants to get people downtown Friday for a day of creativity. The city will have a “Park(ing) Day” where individuals can claim a parking spot on Main Street and make a creative mini park for the day. Individuals are encouraged to bring their family and friends as well as organizations and groups. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
3. Music, cars, art
Frontier Village Museum at Loy Lake in Denison wants to combine cars, art and music for a festival of all things vintage. The car show, arts and music festival will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mayor Arena at Loy Lake. There will be four car clubs on site along with 40 vendors, bounce houses, face painting and two live bands. The event will be held at 457 RC Vaughan Road in Denison.
4. Farming heritage
The Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site in Bonham will have its annual heritage event Saturday. The day that is dedicated to sharing information and the history of farming in North Texas will include hands-on activities for children, house tours and more. The event is free and the house will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
5. Gaming tournament
The Denison public library is inviting lovers of the Nintendo GameCube to participate in a three-hour playoff on Saturday. The event from 2-5 p.m. will be a Super Smash Bros melee. Anyone ages 13 and older is able to participate. The game is rated “T” for teen. The library is located at 300 W. Gandy Street in Denison. For more information, call 903-465-1797.
