All area schools have released their students and the summer vacation season has begun for many people in Texoma. Also area snow cone stands are open and pools are seeing an increase in patrons. If you are looking for something to do, there is no shortage of activities for people in Grayson County. So whether you are looking for indoor or outdoor fun, here are five events to fill the first weekend of June.
1. Statewide sales
The annual Highway 82 yard sale will be held Friday and Saturday along Highway 82 running east and west through Texas. If you are a bargain hunter, treasure seeker, explorer or adventurer, check out this year’s Highway 82/287 yard sale. Explore over 400 miles of the Red River Valley during this annual garage, yard and sidewalk sale event. 2. Community theater
Running the entire month of June, the Sherman Community Players will be putting on the final show of its 69th season. “Grease” will show Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Finley Cultural Center, 500 N. Elm St., Sherman. The play ends June 24. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased at scptheater.org or by visiting the theater’s box office.
3. Children’s science show
The Denison Public Library is encouraging children to spend their summer reading. The summer reading kick-off show will be held Saturday at the library located at 300 W. Gandy in Denison. 4. Music to step to
Miranda Lambert is no stranger to Texas and she will be putting on a concert in Texoma this weekend. Lambert will be performing Saturday at 7 p.m. at Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma. The pre-sale tickets went on sale in January, but there still may be some available. For more information, visit ticketmaster.com.
5. Local talent
You may have seen Shawnda Rains Entertainment’s Star Struck performing at Denison’s “Bark and Paw” Festival in May. The entertainment group will be putting on another show this weekend at the Rialto Theater in Denison. “Fame” will be held Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at 424 W. Main St. in Denison.
