For those that have not planned for Mother’s Day yet, it is not too late. There are plenty of activities to do with mothers this weekend and activities are not just limited to Sunday. Here are five Mother’s Day events taking place in Texoma over the weekend.

1. Enjoy the butterflies

Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison will be dedicating its new Monarch waystation this weekend. Visit the site located at 609 South Lamar Avenue, Denison, around 10 a.m. Saturday for the event. The Eisenhower Birthplace has a new garden and Saturday’s event will include butterfly crafts, making seed balls and rock painting. The dedication of waystation No. 18528 is free of charge and open to the public.

2. Tea party

The Sherman “Pickles & Pottery” location will be celebrating Mother’s Day with a “Mommy and Me Tea Party” starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. This is the second year that the paint shop is hosting this event. You can create a bouquet of timeless flowers in paint while enjoying refreshments. Shop patrons will paint vases with cute outlines already drawn to compliment any style. Once fired, pick up your vase, and fill with your bouquet. The event ends at 3 p.m. and is $48 for two seats. The price includes one large and one small vase. To reserve a seat, call 903-892-3200. This class is recommended for anyone ages 4 and older.

3. Garden day

Spend Mother’s Day in the garden at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in Sherman. Come to 6465 Refuge Road in Sherman between 3-5 p.m. Sunday for a stroll in the refuge’s butterfly garden. Garden docents will be on hand to provide information about native Texas plants and butterflies. As always, the refuge is free for patrons. Light refreshments will be served. No reservations are needed.

4. For all mothers

Mother’s Day does not just have to be for humans. Celebrate with fur babies at the Shacks at Austin Ranch in The Colony at its “Mom-fur’s Day Brunch.” This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Friends and fur babies are welcomd to attend. Also, Mazie’s Mission booth will have fur babies looking for forever homes. The Shacks is located at 5800 Windhaven Parkway in The Colony.

5. Mother’s celebration

Celebrate the special woman in your life with a trip to the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Mothers receive free admission to the Chikasha Poya Exhibit Center, special discounts in the gift shops, and complimentary tea and cookies in the Aaimpa’ Café on both Saturday and Sunday. Start Mother’s Day weekend Saturday with the Taloowa Music Fair which will feature various genres of live music in the beautiful Kochcha’ Aabiniili’ Amphitheater. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 867 Cooper Memorial Drive in Sulphur.
