Larry D. Williams, aged 79 of Van Alstyne, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 2, 2022. He was a dedicated member of Elmont Baptist Church.
Larry was born on June 11, 1943 in Little Rock Arkansas to Curtis J. Williams and Vera Emma Morgan. His father died in a car accident three months before he was born. The day before his third birthday, Trois Fletcher stepped in to fill the role of father to Larry and instilled in him strong family values which are evident in his immediate family today.
On August 20, 1955, the family of 6 packed up and moved to Dallas, Texas. While they were proud to now call themselves “Texans,” they kept close relations with their Arkansas family. Larry attended high school at Bryan Adams and graduated in 1961. On July 11, 1961, Larry joined the United States Navy of which he proudly served until July 10, 1965. Early in life, two of his goals were to join the Navy and to go to work at Texas Instruments. He achieved both. After his service in the Navy, he went to work at TI, starting as one of the youngest employees and upon his retirement, being one of the oldest.
In Lewisville, Texas, on November 26, 1966, he married Kimberly J. Williams. The couple moved to Van Alstyne, Texas in 1970 where they raised their family, which continues to grow and thrive in Van Alstyne today.
Aside from being a devoted member of his church, woodworking, gardening, and taking care of his yard; Larry’s favorite activity was spending time with his family. After his retirement from Texas Instruments/MEMC, he spent many years as a favorite substitute at Van Alstyne Middle School.
Survivors include Kim Williams, his wife of 55 years; son Aaron and Karen Williams of Van Alstyne; son, Raymond Williams; and daughter Cathy Williams, of Fort Worth. Grandsons: Dusty Williams, of Van Alstyne; Cody Williams (Brittni), of Howe; and A.J. Williams, of Van Alstyne. Granddaughters: Shannon Green and Amanda Green-Chancy (Clayton), both of Sherman. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his brother Curtis D. and Virginia Williams of Shenandoah, Texas, sisters Evelyn Alford of Garland, and Brenda and Jim Webb of Gunter, along with several nephews and his good friend, Wayne Hale. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Richard Alford.
