Janice (Catherine) Fisher Blankenship

Janice (Catherine) Fisher Blankenship was born July 10, 1933, in Detroit, Hunt County, TX. Her parents were Judith Anderson Fisher and John Charles Fisher. Surviving siblings include Joan Blankenship of the Colony, John Charles Fisher of Bonham, and Joyce Gorman of McKinney.

At the age of two, the family moved to Sherman, TX. Janice attended Sherman schools through high school, then attended Howard Payne College in Brownwood, TX for 1-1/2 years. Because of family illness, she came home to help with finances. Janice gave her life to Christ at 12 years of age at North Park Baptist Church in Sherman. East Sherman Baptist Church was where she worshipped through high school. She met and married Orval Glenn Blankenship, a Sherman-ite, on September 4, 1954. After marriage, she worked as a secretary for the City of Fort Worth. Homemaker became her title where she and Orval moved to Wichita Falls, then to Richardson, then to Van Alstyne.

Many happy summer hours were spent in a mountain campground outside of Lake City, CO. Later, Janice and Orval became campground hosts there. Relatives from Texas would come to visit – new friends were made – they liked the mountain air, the scenery, and the many places to visit in Colorado.

Their final move was to the countryside in Van Alstyne. They enjoyed the quiet serenity of the small-town atmosphere. They joined the membership at First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne. Janice sang in the church choir and taught the Sunday school classes of older adults.

She is survived by her husband, Orval Glenn Blankenship, and sons Bradley Glen (and wife Gina) and Greg Alan (and wife Leanne). Grandchildren are Cally Marie and husband Bill Miltenberger, Craig Joseph Blankenship, Jill Elise and husband Jimmy Hyten, Clay Hunter Blankenship and wife Danielle. Great grandchildren: Sophia Elise, Crew Hunter, Samuel Ray, Hunter Louise, Molly Mae, William Henry (Billy), Glory Anne, Lila Rose, and Claire Hope.
