James Burnett

On September 4, 2022, Major James D. Burnett (Ret. USAF 1983) peacefully passed in Plano Texas. Born in Lake Charles, LA August 18, 1940. Jim attended school in Beaumont Texas and later graduated from Lamar University with a degree in Economics. Jim married his beloved wife Stephanie in 1967 and together they created their family and had many adventures through their travels. Jim served our country for 20 years as a U.S.A.F officer and after retiring he enjoyed another long career with AT&T as a computer engineer. Jim leaves behind his wife Stephanie of 57 yrs, 3 children and 5 grandchildren, including son, Jason Burnett, 52 of Seattle WA (wife Romina, grandchildren Benjamin and Avellana), daughter, Leslie Oblas, 50 of Gunter, Texas (husband Joe, grandchildren Jake, Austin and Trey), son, Eric Burnett, 37 of Madill, OK (wife Kari), brother Chris Stiteler of Houston, Texas (wife Susan), sister-in-law Janet Stiteler of Houston, brother- in-law Jeff Austin of Phoenix (wife Beth, children Andrew and Ashley). Jim was preceded in death by both parents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim (Jimmy) loved his family immensely and enjoyed spending his free time with them especially his grandchildren. Jim also was an avid reader and enjoyed his cowboy and mystery novels until the end. A glass of wine and a cigar, and any kind of humorous story or joke, Jim left the world without fear or regret, joking until the very end with the love and support of his family.
