The Texoma region is just a week and a half from celebrating the birthday of the only US President to have been born in the area. Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 135th birthday celebration at Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site will be held on Oct. 11 at 609 S. Lamar Avenue in Denison.
The day will include a bicycle and tricycle patriotic parade, demonstrations and crafts. Activities begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 3 p.m. Admission is free for all wishing to attend.
“The staff at the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site invites you to join us as we kick-off “America 250” by celebrating the 135th birthday of Dwight D. Eisenhower,” information about the birthday party said.
“The boy who grew to become commander of the D-Day Invasion and 34th President of the United States, “Ike” was born in a humble house next to the railroad tracks right here in Denison, TX.”
There will also be live music and entertainment for the event.
“We will mark his birth with performers by local students and the “Classic Swing Band” from Dallas,” provided information said. “Community organizations will provide information, demonstrations and crafts. There will be birthday cake, a bounce house and free tours. Youngsters are encouraged to decorate their bicycles and tricycles to participate in a short patriotic parade at 11:00 AM. Older folks will enjoy historical exhibits and classic cars.”
