Gene Lenore, 85, of Sherman passed away on August 17, 2022, in Sherman after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at Waldo Funeral Home on Sunday, August 21st at 2:00P.M.
Gene was born to Leonard and Dorothy Lenore on March 30, 1937.
Gene Lenore was an award-winning journalist and broadcaster. A native of Farmersville in Collin County, Texas, he held a journalism degree from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M Commerce. After military service in the U.S.
Army, he worked as a reporter and editor on Texas newspapers before entering the field of television news as a writer and photographer at WFAA-TV in Dallas.
Over the course of his broadcasting career, he worked as an assistant TV news director, on-air reporter, anchor, and public affairs show host in Tucson, AZ, a news writer for Voice of America and National Public Radio in Washington, D.C., and an assignments editor, on-air reporter, and public affairs host at a TV station in Tyler.
He worked for a number of media outlets in the Sherman/Denison area including KIKM Radio, the Denison Herald, KTEN-TV and KXII-TV where he served a news director and anchor. In the late 1980s, he established a publishing company in Sherman that produced several local, regional, and national publications.

During his career, he worked as a freelance television scriptwriter with a Washington, D.C. based company, Fiveson Entertainment. In that capacity, he wrote or co-wrote a number of television documentaries for the Smithsonian Channel.
In October 2014, he premiered at Denison’s Rialto Theatre his documentary dealing with the building of Denison Dam and the creation of Lake Texoma.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Dorothy (Dillard) Lenore. He is survived by his brother William Lenore of Farmersville, loving wife of 36 years Kathleen, his daughter Megan Russell and husband David of Branson, granddaughter Abigail of Branson, MO, grandson Hayden Christie and wife Katelyn, great grandson Mason of Lone Grove, OK, daughter Leila Lenore and grandson James of Ardmore, OK, granddaughter Carol Ann Cox and husband Cory, great granddaughter Olivia of Ardmore.
