From November 03, 1934, to August 16, 2022 Fred Hayes, 87, of Hochatown, OK formerly of Denison, TX passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday morning the 16th day of August 2022. Fred was born in Platter, Ok on November 3, 1934, to Lewis Edwin “Ed” and Bertha (Thompson) Hayes. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Fred was known for his hard work ethic, contagious smile, and sweet and loving way he embraced everyone he met. Despite the pain, Fred became a hero and stayed strong until the end, for those he left behind until the end.
He was a wonderful, generous, loving husband, dad, grandpa, Pa Fred & Poppa. Fred was drafted into the Army in 1957. After completing Basic Training, Fred was stationed at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. In August of 1957, Fred received an honorable discharge from the Army. Fred met the love of his life, Maggie “Sue,” while she was waiting tables in a local café. It was love at first sight. They married 58 years ago in Durant, OK on January 30, 1964. Together they have six children, Michael, Jimmy, George, Rhonda, Terri, & Lori. Fred worked as a Carpenter for most of his life.
He loved his work and took considerable pride in the numerous homes he built throughout the years all over Northern Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Fred taught various members of his family his trade and most of them worked for Fred for many years. Several of his nephews used what they learned from Fred to build on and develop their own successful construction fields. Fred enjoyed hunting and spending time with his ever-growing family. Fred is survived by his wife Maggie “Sue” Hayes of the home, his sons, Michael Hayes and wife Trisha of Denison, Jimmy Allen, and wife Sandy of Dallas, George Allen and wife Cindy of Houston; daughters, Terri Logan, and husband Bryon of Addison & Lori Virgin of Denison; beloved sister Nell Pittman husband Doug of Colbert, and devoted family members that loved him like a father; nephews Barry Taylor and wife Terri of the home, Billy and wife Gayla of Colbert, Brad Taylor and wife Rachel of Cartwright, Brian Taylor and wife Connie of Denton and niece Brenda Taylor and husband Denny of Colbert.
As well as, Twelve grandchildren, Twenty-three great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edwin “Ed” Hayes and wife Bertha (Thompson), His brothers Frank and James Hayes; Sisters, Bonnie Taylor, and Bertrice “Bea” Hicks, Daughter Rhonda Buffalo, and Granddaughter Patricia “Trish” Franklin. Family Night will be held this Friday evening on the 26th day of August from 6 PM to 8 PM at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, TX. Memorial services will be held at Fisher Funeral Home on the 27th day of August at 11 am, with Pastor Joe Beshirs officiating. Interment will follow the Memorial Service at Fairview Cemetery.
