As the final weekend before most area students go back to school, this weekend will have a lot of events for families to do together. If you are looking for learning activities, Hagerman will have a presentation on bats and this is the final weekend to visit the Sherman Museum’s Dino Days exhibit. Goodwill Industries will have a back-to-school giveaway and the Sherman Kiwanis Club is sponsoring its annual bike rally. Also, this weekend a local talent will be debuting his album at a local live music venue. Here are five activities taking place on Saturday.
1. Winged, nocturnal, mammals
The second Saturday program at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge this weekend will be on bats. The program begins at 10 a.m. with Bryon Clark as the speaker. He will talk about the only flying mammal. Registration is not required for the presentation. Second Saturday programs are best for individuals over the age of 10. 2. Back-to-school giveaway
Goodwill Industries of Northeast Texas will be having a back-to-school giveaway this weekend at 2206 E. Lamar Street in Sherman. The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be eight backpack giveaways. Representatives from Sherman Fire Rescue, the Sherman Police Department and the Sherman Independent School District will be on site. There will also be cornhole boards and a dunking booth. 3. Dino Days
This is the final weekend for the Sherman Museum annual exhibit Dino Days. The museum opens at 10 a.m. on the final two days of the exhibit, Friday and Saturday. The museum closes at 4 p.m. Admission is $5. Children under 5 get in free. The two large dinosaurs in the exhibit are Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops. The Sherman Museum is located at 301 S. 4. Long-distance biking
The 13th annual Sherman Kiwanis Red River Bike Rally will be this weekend. The rally will be held Saturday at the Texoma Event Center. The event begins at 7 a.m. Routes range in distance from 27 miles to 100 miles. There are five paved routes planned. For more information and to register, visit redriverbikerally.com.
5. Kevin Forrest Clark
Local artist Kevin Forrest Clark will be debuting his album this weekend at The Rialto Theater in Denison. The world premiere party will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. This country music event will include a red carpet and guest star Taylor Dee. Tickets are $15 to $40.
