It is still fall festival season in Texoma and there are plenty of activities this weekend to get people in the fall spirit. On Saturday, Denison will be having its fall festival and Sherman is having its wine stroll. Also on Saturday will be a fishing derby for children and a country concert at the Rialto. And, if you do not mind a short drive, Wylie will be having a rodeo. Here are five events for the first weekend of October.
1. Wine stroll
Sherman’s wine tasting event kicked off on Thursday and live jazz music will set the atmosphere at Sherman’s “Stroll on the Square and Texoma’s Best Bite” event Saturday. Visit downtown Sherman between 6-9 p.m. to take part in the event. Check in is at Grayson Hall, 113 South Travis Street in Sherman. Individuals will receive a bracelet, map and wine glass. Tickets range from $20-$75.
2. Cowboy games
Wylie Championship Rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday at Hensley Lane in Wylie. There will be bulls, fair food, bounce houses, barrel racing, vendors and a calf scrambling. There will also be live music. This is the 26th annual event. Tickets can be purchased at wyliechamber.org.
3. Festival season
The 31st annual Denison Fall Festival will be held Saturday in the city’s downtown. Vendor booths open at 9 a.m. Arts and crafts booths, food vendors, games and carnival rides will be set up along Main Street. 4. Fishing fun
Sherman Parks and Recreation will be hosting a kids fishing derby Saturday at Herman Baker Park. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A limited number of poles will be available for children wanting to participate. There will also be games, door prizes and a free hot dog lunch.
5. Down home country
Since he began performing in 1975, T.G. Sheppard has had 14 No. 1 hits and eight consecutive No. 1’s between 1980-1982. Sheppard will be performing at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rialto in Denison.
