The Sherman High School graduate also studied at Prairie View A&M University. He is a graduate of Haz-Co Fire Academy in Sherman. He is EMT certified through Grayson County College. Currently employed at Eaton, he’s the owner of The Camp boxing gym.

Luper will face Josh Marr in the November election for the Grayson County commissioners Precinct 1 seat. Early voting begins Oct. 21 and continues through Nov. 1.

Luper answered five questions about why he thinks Grayson County should choose him.

Q. Grayson County commissioners help set the budget for the county. Explain what experience you have with working with million-dollar budgets.

A. Working on these types of Budgets is nothing new to me. I currently own 3 Businesses and have to maintain a separate budget for each.

Q. Grayson County commissioners oversee a staff of road construction professionals. Explain what experience you have with staff management.

A. Within my multiple businesses there is staffing for each. I maintain and control all staffing and staffing needs. So, maintaining staffing as Country commissioner will be like second nature for me.

Q. County commissioners are a public face for the county. They meet with people about all kinds of concerns. Explain what about your past experience makes you a good public face for the county.

A. I am a USA Boxing Coach/official and referee. I was highly recommended for Nationals several times and Olympic Trials. By holding these positions, I meet with high-ranking officials and athletes all over the world. I meet with local business owners in the community, and I attend hearings at the courthouse to speak on defenders’ behalf because I’m known in the judicial system here in GC for being able to rehabilitate offenders. I was on the Board for North Texas Youth Connection where I assisted and dealt with homeless/sheltered kids, and I taught life-skill classes.

Q. If you were faced with increasing taxes or cutting services, which would you do and why?

A. I would prioritize the services that are being offered by finding out which ones are actually being used and I would cut the ones that are stagnant and not increase taxes.

Q. If you had to decide between increasing taxes and giving county employees a raise which would you do and why?

A. If the cost of living in Grayson County has increased, then the county employees would receive an increase in pay. If the cost of living has not increased, then they will not receive an increase in pay. My goal is not to always be looking to raise taxes. My goal is to make a better living for the people in Grayson County.
