Dr. Edie Whitfield died on December 19, 2022 from complications of dementia and stroke. She was born Eddie Lois Hamilton on November 6, 1929. She was the oldest of 4 siblings and grew up in Tahoka, Texas. In her last year of High School, she met her life mate, Charles B Whitfield and they were married July 3, 1947. They returned from honeymooning in Ruidoso, New Mexico to Roswell about the time of the UFO “crash.” They maintained over the years that they saw no aliens but that they might have been otherwise distracted. Charles and Eddie Lois quickly had two sons, Charles E. and Larry and when the boys reached school age, Eddie Lois entered college at Texas Tech. While mixing parenting, working and schooling, both Eddie Lois and Charles completed Bachelors’, Masters’ and Doctorate degrees in the school of education
at Tech. After stints in the Lubbock ISD and as faculty at Morehead State University in Kentucky, they concluded over 35 years as educators, retiring from the Denison ISD in Denison, Texas. In retirement they enjoyed their professional organizations, traveling and cruising with her sister Vicky and husband Bob and helping to raise their 3 beloved grandchildren, Charlie, Emma and Parker. Her family includes her three siblings, Joy, Harold and Vicky and families, her son Larry and Kate and family. She was predeceased by Charles her husband of 67 years; parents, Ed and Opal Hamilton; brother Harold and by her older son, Charles E. Whitfield USMC. No services are pending at this time.
