1938-2023

Doris Jean Ramsey, also known as Jeannie, Gigi and mom, passed away peacefully from dementia on Jan. 29, 2023, in Brownsville, Texas, at 84.

Doris was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Durant, Okla., to Whit and Donnie Denson.

She grew up in Honey Grove, Texas, before marrying Harold Ramsey in 1957. She and Harold resided in Denison more than 50 years and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year.

Doris spent her life dedicated to caring for her family. She was a bookkeeper for Harold’s masonry contracting business, co-owned The Wedding Shop in Denison in the ’80s and worked for Diaper Jeans early in their marriage.

Doris and Harold loved to travel and toured 48 of the 50 states. Upon retiring, they moved to Brownsville and resided at Winter Haven Resort and lived retirement to its fullest. She helped with many volunteer organizations throughout the years and supported the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Doris is survived by her husband; son, Stephen L. Ramsey and wife Laura; daughter, Stacey Ramsey Blackwell and husband Tim; granddaughter, Laura Ramsey Browning, husband Evan and great-grandson Emmett; and stepgranddaughter, Miranda Farias.

Doris’ final resting place will be Oakridge Cemetery at Carpenters Bluff where much of the family is buried. There will be no service at this time. Please remember her fondly as the amazing person that she was. Donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
