This week, area seniors will have the opportunity to participate in a digital literacy class aimed at helping individuals learn about devices, Wi-Fi network, internet connections and more.
The class hosted by Sparklight will take place at the Sherman Senior Citizens Center on May 7.
“In today’s world, digital skills are vital for accessing information and connecting with others, both online and within our own neighborhoods,” said Hope Baxter, Sparklight Marketing Director, South Central Region. “Supporting the communities where we live and work is central to Sparklight’s mission, and we’re pleased to offer this practical resource to empower Sherman residents and strengthen our local connection.”
The class will begin at noon Wednesday.
“Beyond delivering fast, reliable internet, Sparklight® is dedicated to making a difference in the communities it serves,” a news release about the event said.
“The community is invited to learn basic internet terms, web browser navigation and simple online search techniques. The session will also cover identifying digital devices, connecting to Wi-Fi networks, and basic internet connection troubleshooting. Instructors will discuss online safety principles, including password security and recognizing scams.”
This program is part of a digital literacy campaign by Sparklight.
“Sparklight actively supports the communities it serves through donations of time and resources to diverse local causes like food banks, animal shelters, senior and child advocacy programs and community improvement projects,” the release said. “This support extends to the digital realm via Sparklight’s Digital Education Center, which features information on computer and online safety, social media basics and guidance for parents on children’s online safety.”
