David Andrew Loy, known to friends and family as Dave, passed away on April 28, 2023, at the age of 53 in Austin, Texas. Born on March 13, 1970, in Sherman, Texas, Dave was a man of many talents and a heart full of kindness. He was a deeply beloved husband and son, and a true friend to many. Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Suzanne Rojas Loy, and their loving family, including his father, John Loy; mother, Elaine Parker Loy; brother, Jeffrey Loy; sister-in-law, Kim Loy; mother-in-law, Cynthia Smith; father-in-law, Dean Rojas; stepmother-in-law, Claudia Rojas; brother-in-law, Christopher Rojas; sister-in-law, Kacey Grimes Rojas; nephew, Jameson Rojas; niece, Audrey Rojas; and Dave and Suzanne’s cherished dogs: Ranger, Annabelle, Daisy, Scout, Roky, Ellie, Howard, and Walter. Dave’s family and friends will forever remember him as a pillar of strength, love, and support.

Dave’s early years were spent in the pursuit of knowledge, for he was a man of great intellect and curiosity. He studied journalism and philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin. His passion for journalism led him to work as a reporter and news editor at the Daily Texan in the early 1990s, where he honed his writing skills and contributed to the campus community, establishing a rapport with several state legislators and Gov. Ann Richards. Dave returned to the University as a staff member and student in the mid-2000s and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2007. In his professional life, Dave was a true Renaissance man, skilled in many arts and trades. Dave became a skilled carpenter and master tile setter, showcasing his artistic flair and dedication to quality craftsmanship.

He also worked as a professional driver and courier, and following his college graduation he started a career as a paralegal/case manager in business and criminal law, applying his analytical mind and strong sense of justice to support his clients and colleagues. Dave’s interests were as diverse as his talents. He loved all animals, especially dogs, and was an active participant in animal rescue efforts. His compassionate nature extended beyond his love for animals, as he was also a moderator of several internet forums, where he offered guidance, support, and friendship to countless individuals. His handy nature extended beyond his professional skills, as he was always working on home projects of all sorts and could fix almost anything. Dave enjoyed collecting classic firearms, appreciating their historical significance and the craftsmanship involved in their creation. Dave was also an avid fan of several sports, including Formula One racing, University of Texas football and basketball, and Dallas Cowboys football. Music played a significant role in Dave’s life, as he was a talented musician who loved al! types of music. His passion for music brought joy to those around him, as he shared his gift for creating beautiful melodies and inspired others with his enthusiasm for the art form. Dave’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he enriched and the many memories he leaves behind.

As we remember and celebrate Dave’s life, let us be inspired by his unwavering kindness, his pursuit of knowledge, his humor and wit, and his passion for creativity. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Family and friends are invited to attend Dave’s memorial service at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Harrell Funeral Home of Austin.
