While parents, students and educators are preparing for children to go back to school, local community organizations are also working to make sure they have everything they need to be successful during the 2024-25 school year.
The following back-to-school events are planned for the coming weeks:
SISD back-to-school bash
Sherman Independent School District and Goodwill Industries of Northeast Texas will be putting on their annual back-to-school bash from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
A free backpack and school supplies will be provided while supplies last. There will also be haircuts, fingernail painting and more.
Back-to-school at the park
Light House Church will host a family-friendly back-to-school event at Fairview Park Saturday.
The event from 6-8 p.m. will include sports competitions, arts and crafts, carnival games, water games and more.
Kickball and soccer competitions will begin at 7 p.m.
East Main back-to-school
The Makewild Markets and Ray’s Mercantile will have bounce houses, balloon dome, a back-to-school photo booth, live music, a hat bar, educator discounts and more will be on site for the back-to-school bash. The event will be held from 11:20-4 p.m. Aug. 10.
There will also be a tax-free shopping event.
Back-to-school with the Shadowcats
Shadowcats will host a community-wide event next week in honor of back-to-school season. This event hosted in conjunction with the Douglass family will include free seats at the Shadowcats doubleheader on Aug. 6.
The first game begins at 4:30 p.m. and the second game will begin 30 minutes after the first game concludes.
Grillin and Givin Back-to-School Festival
Grayson United and other community organizations have teamed up for a barbecue cook-off and back-to-school festival.
this event will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at Kidd-Key Lawn in Shermans.
There will be free school supplies, haircuts and hairstyles, live music, a bounce house, facepainting and more.
