From the time I could read as a young child, I have had my eye on the birthday column in the Herald Democrat. Sitting just below the Good Morning column, the birthdays were not just a celebration of my day when it came around each year, it was a time to see so many other names.

Over the weekend I watched what arguably was one of the best films of 2023. No, I didn't see Barbie or Oppenheimer. The film I watched came up from the depths, 30 stories high, breaking fire with its head in the sky.

Summertime is a great time to read in my humble opinion.

As I am sure you are aware, the Herald Democrat underwent a few changes this year. We do not want anyone to miss out on any local news.

When it comes to kids, trends and tastes seem to change more often than some of them change their socks. The popular toy or TV show of today could come off as simply an afterthought tomorrow when the next big thing rolls around.

Each week, I scan from calendar to calendar to find events to list in the Grayson County community calendar. While I try to release the calendar for a one-month period, I may be holding events from months to add them to future calendars.

The temperatures outside haven't even really started to heat up yet but social media is alive with talk of all things spooky season.
