Good Morning: Superstition submissions and the month of October

It is hard to believe that many people can really comprehend the number of emails we get at the Herald Democrat every day. They range from simple things that show up in our paper and on our website like notices of upcoming events to the really bizarre spam emails about strange things people do or say or some kind of study that has nothing to do with anything happening locally.

Good Morning: Artificial intelligence is anything but

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak is often cited as once saying, "Never trust a computer you can't throw out a window." Given that I doubt I can hurl the entire network that powers many AI systems out of the nearest window, I think I can be forgiven for putting little trust in the recent trend for artificial intelligence. As someone who has spent the vast majority of my life in front of a computer of some form, I know all too well that there is no true artificial intelligence.
