As you may have read earlier this year, the Herald Democrat implemented a big change. We went to three print publication days with five days of e-editions on our website and constant updates on our website and social media.

Earlier this year, I wrote a column in this section about voter fatigue. The Grayson County Elections Administration worked with local entities on election in February, May, September and now early voting begins Monday for the Nov.

There is a certain feeling in the air. The days are getting shorter and shorter, and the leaves are starting to change colors. The signs of falls are all around us at long last.

Before we know it, October will be half over, and we are still dealing with high temperatures way above normal in the north Texas southern Oklahoma area. That is the case on Friday as we head into a weekend where the highs are predicted to be in the middle to upper 90s, it’s hard to think that that is still happening this far into October. As I ponder that, I think about all those marching band students in the county — hundreds and hundreds of them — who will be out there on Friday night performing their shows in what is still going to be very uncomfortable temperatures.

The only thing that can make me forgive the current spate of extra hot weather headed for Texas is watching the news reports of what is going on in Florida.A couple of 95 degree plus days in middle of October seems crazy until you think about two major hurricanes hitting a place in the span of just two weeks. I don’t know how those poor folks are staying sane, let alone dry.

Another day, another near 90-degree high temperature here in North Texas. A quick look at the long-range forecast makes me wonder if autumn is ever going to come to North Texas this year.

A few weeks ago, I wrote a column about the things that come with the change of seasons from fall to summer — specifically the tastes of fall. I would be remiss if I didn't bring attention to another thing that comes with fall: festival season.
