After ruptured aorta repair, he’s not wasting his second chance

Dear Dr. Roach:I am a 78-year-old man who suffered a ruptured aorta six months ago. It was successfully repaired, and I am in generally good health, physically active, back to the gym (less weight than before) and I feel about as I did before the rupture. I want to get back to playing touch rugby, which means running hard for short distances for an hour, but I can’t find any research that says whether this is a reasonable activity. My doctor says, “Why take a chance?” Because it’s part of my life, that’s why. Do you know of any authoritative research on this?

Want to carry weapons? Do it like the military

One go-to argument some Second Amendment proponents cite against stronger gun safety laws is how our nation trusts 18-year-olds in the military to handle weapons of war. The thinking goes something like this: Since 18-year-olds can vote and serve in the military, they should also have the right to own an assault-style rifle (no mention of drinking, renting cars or how the prefrontal cortex is still developing).

Good Morning: Sound tracking your life

I think I found the song of the summer this weekend. It is a little piece by Em Beihold called “Numb Little Bug.” I heard it by chance recently and thought it reminded me a lot of the song “Killing Me Softly” in that it seemed like the song writer had been rummaging around in my head while writing the song, and then decided to just share everything found there with the whole world.
