When I was a child, I did not dress up for Halloween.

Anyone who has read the Herald Democrat over the last couple of decades probably knows I like a good legal thriller whether it be in a local court or in the form of a good novel. Generally, I get my courtroom fix from John Grisham, king of the courtroom drama.

On October 10, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 was awarded to Venezuela reform leader Maria Corina Machado. She is truly deserving of the honor, and personifies courage, positive global influence and significance, reaching beyond that troubled nation.
