Texas DA: Murder charge for self-induced abortion being dropped
A Texas district attorney said Sunday that he will ask a judge to dismiss a murder charge against a woman over a selfinduced abortion. Lizelle Herrera was arrested Thursday in Rio Grande City, a community of about 14,000 people along the Mexico border, after a Starr County grand jury indicted her on March 30 for murder for allegedly causing “the death of an individual … by self-induced abortion.” District Attorney Gocha Allen Ramirez said Sunday that his office would move to dismiss the charge on Monday.
Poor Boy 377 Cafe fails early 2022 GCHD inspection; other inspection grades
While dozens of local eateries earned top scores on their early 2022 inspections from the Grayson County Health Department’s team of sanitarians, one took the lowest grade. Poor Boy 377 Cafe, 894 US HWY 377 in Whitesboro, received a failing grade recently.

A Southern Plains Wildfire Outbreak is possible Tuesday in the Texas Panhandle. This event may impact communities near Canadian, Amarillo, Childress and Lubbock where extremely dry vegetation will be subjected to above normal temperatures, low humidity and high wind speeds, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
7 indicted for deadly prison attack on rival gang members
A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas returned an indictment this week in Beaumont charging seven inmates at U.S. Penitentiary Beaumont, who are members of the violent transnational criminal organization La Mara Salvatrucha, also known as the MS-13, for their involvement in a deadly prison attack on rival gang members on Jan. 31. All seven defendants are in federal custody.
Bridge over Center Street under construction
The bridge over Center Street in Sherman will be receiving some attention from Texas Department of Transportation crews as they work to reconstruction the main lanes of US Highway 75 near the road way this week. Traffic has been shifted onto the frontage road near west Staples Street to assist with the road construction along the route.
