After nearly six years, the hole in the downtown Denison streetscape is beginning to be filled. Representatives for downtown Denison held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week for the city's new visitor's center, located at the site of the 2019 fire that destroyed three buildings and left a hole in the 300 block of W.

Last week, the Grayson County commissioners recognized two local track and field teams for their accomplishments throughout the last season. The Tioga High School boys track team and the Texoma Christian School girls track team won their respective state competitions this year.

The city of Sherman is preparing for the next phase of improvements to one of its major regional parks. City staff gave an update last week on plans for more than $4.3 million of improvements to Fairview Park that will add parking capacity and streamline traffic flow through the park.

Water system improvements, parks and other major projects were the topics of focus last week when the Sherman City Council met for its annual capital improvements program meeting. The meeting is one of the city council's major budget meetings and comes just weeks before the annual budget retreat where the council will discuss and give an early outline on the priority projects and expenses that could make their way into the 2025-2026 budget.
