This week, the Van Alstyne Library announced a change of venue for some of its summer children's enrichment programs. Summer reading program events and other events will be held at First United Methodist gymnasium at 230 East Shreveport in Van Alstne.

Project is running ahead of schedule. We anticipate substantial project completion in the fall of 2024.

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation anticipate that the US Highway 75 "gap" project will be substantially complete by late August, and all main lanes of the highway will be open for traffic. The latest update comes nearly four-and-a-half years after what will go down as the most expensive roadway project in Grayson County began in 2020.

Juneteenth refers to June 19,1965, the day soldiers arrived at the Port of Galveston informing enslaved people about President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation announcing the freedom of enslaved people in Confederate states. More than two years after the proclamation was read and signed, the nearly 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were the last people under Confederate rule to learn of their newly attained status.

This weekend, Texoma Earth Day will be doing a redo of its annual festival. The Texoma rendition of the Earth Day festival was originally scheduled to coincide with Earth Day on April 20, however, inclement weather caused the annual recycling themed event to have to be rescheduled.

Youngsters interested in policing still have time to register to attend the Sherman Police Department's week-long educational program designed to allow area youth to become more familiar with the many functions of the SPD. Deadline to sign up is June 18.
