Grayson County approves new budget
Grayson County commissioners Tuesday approved a budget for fiscal year 2025 based on a tax rate of $.3051 per $100 of valuation.
Growing Pains: Denison proposes 10 cent increase to property tax rates
The average Denison homeowner could see their property taxes increase by about $221 going into the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Members of the Denison City Council voted unanimously Monday night to propose a 10-cent increase to the city's property tax rate following a possible deficit budget going into the new year.
Sherman-Denison sees slight decrease in unemployment
Sherman and Denison continued a trend of being a job-seeker's market in July as the area unemployment rate saw a slight decrease, the Texas Workforce Commission reported last week in its monthly jobs report. The latest update saw the local unemployment rate drop to 4.1 percent — a decrease of 0.1 percent — for Sherman and Denison, placing it below both the state and national unemployment rates.
September special election just weeks away
The last day to register to vote in the September special election to be held by the city of Sherman was last week. The election will be held Sept. 14.
TxDOT gives school zone warning, road construction reports
In 2023, there were 748 traffic crashes in Texas school zones, resulting in one death and 14 serious injuries. The most common crash causes were speeding, distracted driving and failure to yield the right of way.

A Denison man will spend the next 35 years behind bars for continuous sex abuse of a child under 14 and indecency with a child by sexual contact. A news release from the Grayson County District Attorney's Office said the sentencing follows a guilty plea.
