Local student earns win at Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

John Wells, a FFA member from Van Alstyne, earned Early Spring Heifer Calf Reserve Champion with Shadybrook Carolyn 102M ET in the Shorthorn heifer division at the 2025 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) on January 25. The 2025 Show is hosting junior exhibitors from across Texas competing for awards and more than $243,000 in premiums, including $35,900 in Junior Breeding Heifer Show premiums.

New GCSO deputy sworn in

Last week, Patrick Doran was officially sworn in as a deputy by Grayson County Sheriff Tony Bennie. In a news release issued at the end of last week, GCSO said this marks a milestone as the first new hire under Bennie’s leadership.
