A renewed spirit of preservation and pride is sweeping through East Texas as the Sons of the Republic of Texas (SRT) reestablish their presence in the region, centered on Nacogdoches – the historic seat of Spanish and later Mexican authority in early East Texas. What began in late 2023 as conversations about the lack of SRT activity in Northeast Texas has evolved into a wide-reaching campaign to reconnect the region with its foundational role in Texas independence.

While the plants are adjusting to summertime’s ups and downs, the animal life goes along with the flow. As did the snake thrashing about in the overflow basin at the end of a tin horn.
Snakes are common in nearly all outdoor environments and typically would much rather be left alone than defend themselves against humans or animals. When they do feel the need to strike, our curious animal companions are often the ones at risk — especially if the snake is venomous.
All the following tips are assuming July is a "normal" month - whatever "normal" is. This year we went from having a fairly normal spring with lots of rain into the beginning of summer with lots of rain and cooler temperatures.
The Creative Arts Center continues to have lots of classes and activities going on this summer, including a wide variety of art and yoga classes for all ages, the Quilt Hop, a Kidz Krew play and a Meet & Greet with authors of the book “Art Makes Magic.” The art center will be one of the stops on the Bonham Quilt Hop. Visitors can stop by the center on July 25 and 26 from 10 am to 4 pm to view many beautiful quilts.
We have been reminded that the world and its inhabitants can be taken away in moments.
