A recent windstorm uprooted more than winter’s aged flowers. Trampolines to trees were broken. Vehicles crowded in covered spaces while people and pets took shelter indoors. The next morning revealed the remnants of what was stirred, scattering the streets like seashells upon wet sand.
With Spring Break around the corner, most Texans are finalizing plans to travel to their favorite places in search of sun and fun. If you’ve waited until the last minute to find something to do, never fear. Dear Abby Dear Abby: My 20-year-old niece, “Andrea,” came to visit her grandmother wearing a nose stud. Andrea is quiet, is polite to her grandparents and aunt and is in her third year of college.
How often does is seem like the things you don’t quite do so well get passed down to your kids? I didn’t do so well in math, and darn if it didn’t show up in my kids. That misbehavior when I was young, which I was determined not to let my boys get away with, somehow came through anyway. Somehow, the consequences of the notso- great decisions I made once upon a time, show up in my children. How does that happen? Is that really fair? Whose fault is that?
Dear Neil: I believe we have live oaks in our neighborhood. They have started sending up hundreds of little seedlings. Last year when this happened, I sprayed to kill them, but it turned the zoysia brown. I don’t want to pull them by hand because there are so many, plus some of them are very deeply rooted. What can I do?
To Your Health Dear Dr. Roach: My husband’s doctor is repeatedly pushing statins on my husband.
While getting the first shot of hyaluronic acid in my right knee, the doctor and I discussed not the knee but the February tornado. His house took a severe blow, but he and his family were safely ensconced in the safe room in the southeast bedroom. When they emerged, everything looked fairly normal. The bed still made, pictures on the wall, bathroom intact. They then walked further into the house. Two by fours down in all directions. It will take a year to rebuild the house back to its former glory while they live in a rental house.
Dear Abby: I have a colleague who has become an amazing friend over the last few years. We plan dinner dates or work conferences periodically, and we also try to book spa appointments together when we have vacation time.
