Lawns waste a lot of water and use a lot of time, energy, and money; however, most people want part of their landscape to have some lawn. Mowing is just something that must be done if you want your home to look beautiful and well-cared for. Try to think of mowing as free exercise and a chance to get out in the fresh air and sunshine. With all the rain we have been blessed with this spring, the grass and weeds are beginning to grow quickly. The problem now is to let the grass and soil dry out enough to mow without causing damage and still not let the grass get too tall before the next mowing. The following are some tips to help you have a beautiful, healthy lawn with the best results and the least effort possible.
The late February tornado got too close for comfort. The National Weather Service tornado tracks have recently been released. The question: was there one or two tornadoes? I can testify that the loud roar to the southwest moved to the northeast but lifted over my house.

Dear Dr. Roach: I have a problem I’ve never seen addressed in your column. Unlike many people who are my age (85), I get too much sleep. I am pretty healthy, and I work out three times a week. Until last year, when my husband died, I was always busy taking care of him at home. Even then, I was getting about seven and a half hours of sleep a night. Now I’m never busy, and I get about 10 hours of sleep a night. I wake up to go to the bathroom, but go right back to sleep.
Dear Abby: My ex-husband and I separated two months after our wedding. Our divorce was final five months ago.

Dear Abby: This is in response to “Living a Soap Opera” (Jan. 3), the unhappy woman who is married to an alcoholic. She is flattered by the three younger men she’s conversing with online. My experience is that when men say they are in a place where you can’t meet them, such as stationed far away in the army or on a ship, and they immediately fall in love with you, it’s most likely a scam. I’m not saying this to hurt her feelings or deflate her ego, but for the purpose of safety. If they start asking for money, BEWARE! Vulnerable people easily get scammed in this way. Sadly, I know this from experience, so I just wanted to give a heads-up.
Dear Dr. Roach: I so appreciated your recent column on arthritis -- specifically osteoarthritis. I’m a big exerciser; however, I have always heard that this arthritis is caused or exacerbated by wear and tear. I was surprised to hear otherwise!
