Gardeners learn the basic rules of gardening and then add more and more information the longer they garden. The garden centers and nurseries are starting to get plants in for the spring season. I know gardeners cannot wait to get started after a long winter without gardening so here are some good basic tips that I think will make your chores easier and your garden more enjoyable and successful.

Do a good deed today

The pollen collects as yellow dust on car windshields, along walkways and small piles accumulate in corners of my yard. Meanwhile small winged elm seeds rain from the sky down to earth, ever hopeful they will lodge in a hospitable place where they can germinate and sink down roots. There’s not going to be much activity until we receive some decent rainfall. Already several potted plants are being watered as the residents in the greenhouse continue to be moved outdoors. Temps inside the large greenhouse are nearing 100 degrees some afternoons even with the door and windows open, but some plants will remain inside. One nighttime low is predicted to drop to 40 degrees. Plumerias do not like it below 40 degrees.

Ex is still a negative influence on man’s life

Dear Abby: My wife and I were married 21 years ago. Since then, she has admitted to cheating with 10 different men. Each time, I stayed with her, hoping she’d change. Do companies advertise ineffective supplements?

Dear Dr. Roach: I see supplements advertised on television that are supposed to clear “brain fog” and do many other beneficial things. Are these any good, and can they actually do the things that they claim to? If they are effective, why aren’t they sold at drugstores? If not, how is it that companies are allowed to make these false claims and advertise these supplements on television?

Trail of Tears memorial walk returns in May

Tribal members, Friends of the Choctaw Nation to take part On Saturday, May 20 the Trail of Tears Memorial Walk will mark the 192nd anniversary of the first Choctaws who came from their ancestral lands in Mississippi and Alabama to their new home in Indian Territory. Nearly 15,000 tribal members made the forced journey which came to be called “the Trail of Tears and Death.” It is believed about one-quarter of those who were removed perished along the way.

Choctaw Nation Comes Out on Top in Tribal Blood Drive Challenge

The Annual Tribal Blood Drive Challenge has ended in a successful amount of donations given through drives held by four tribes across Oklahoma. Choctaw Nation had the most participation ever, resulting in giving a winning amount of donations during the event. The Chickasaws join the Choctaw Nation in first place with both tribes achieving 103% over their expected participation. This challenge is the second of what has become an annual event. Overall, Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) received enough blood to save 8,622 lives.
