Bus driver terminated following VAISD bus incident

Last week, Van Alstyne Independent School District bus was involved in a bus incident, and after issuing a statement last week, the district has returned with an update to provide to the public.
In a news release issued Thursday, the district acknowledged one of its school buses was involved in an accident. While the district is still conducting an investigation, this week, the district has acknowledged that the driver of the bus involved in the accident has been terminated.
“The Van Alstyne ISD Police Department is actively working in partnership with the Van Alstyne Police Department to conduct a full investigation into the bus incident that occurred yesterday,” Thursday’s statement said.
“The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring a thorough and transparent process.
“We appreciate your patience and support as we work through this matter.”
While providing transparency to the public, the district detailed why the bus driver has been terminated.
“Van Alstyne ISD is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every student in our care,” this week’s release began. “Following a recent bus incident, the driver involved has been terminated from employment with the district due to:
“Failing to report the accident
“Leaving the scene of the accident
“Failing to ensure the safety of students after the accident”
Since the incident, the district has stepped into ensure safety and continuity of services for students and families.
“Immediate actions were taken to protect all students, and transportation services have continued without disruption,” the release continued
“This matter remains under investigation by the Van Alstyne Police Department in cooperation with the Van Alstyne ISD and VAISD Police Department. If your student was on the bus, experienced injuries, and is in need of treatment, please contact transportation_department@vanalstyneisd.org.
“Thank you for your continued support.”
