Barbara Luper

The Story of Her Life…

On September 14, 1946, Columbus and Elizabeth Nelson announced the arrival of their daughter, Barbara Ann. Barbara attended Fred Douglass School in Sherman and worked at Texas Instruments until she retired. She was married to her soulmate, Robert S. Luper (Joe), until his death in 1986.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her children, family, and friends. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her classmates, the Fred Douglass Class of 1965, during their events and reunions. Early in life, she was member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Greater New Hope Church. On Tuesday, July 5, Barbara went home to be with

On Tuesday, July 5, Barbara went home to be with the Lord. Her smile and compassion will be greatly missed. She was welcomed into glory by her parents, Columbus and Elizabeth Nelson, her husband Joe Luper, and her siblings Dorothy Pennamon, Gladys Nichols, Minnie Johnson, Pearlie Williams, Prince Davis, Paul Nelson, Charles Nelson, and Columbus Nelson, Jr.

Those who are left to cherish her memories are: siblings Ethelene Nelson of Sherman, TX, Shirley Stone of San Antonio, TX, Marie Goocher of San Francisco, CA, Horace (Addie) Nelson of Houston, TX, twins Alec Mutcherson and Phillip Mutcherson of Arlington, TX; her loving and devoted children, Darryl Nelson of Sherman, TX, Letitia (Rod) Hurst of DeSoto, TX, Nichelle Wilson of Spring, TX, Craig Hickson of Sherman, TX and Elizabeth Yvonne (Donnell) Jones of Houston, TX; grandchildren Keena McIntosh, Valorie (Kevin) Berry, Marcus Hurst, Jared (Monik) Hickson, Danielle (Daniel) Jenkins, Sequoia Dalton, Deerick Heart, Jasmine, and Jaden; and greatgrandchildren Mariah Berry, Kevin Berry, Jr., Mackenzie Berry, Malayah Hurst, Jameis Hickson, Myra Hickson, Daniella Jenkins, Daniel Jenkins, Jr., Addison Dalton, Azoya Cox, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Barbara Ann Luper’s services were held at the Greater New Hope Church on 07/12/2022 at 11 am.
