Barbara Kay Buchanan Vogelsang

Barbara Kay Buchanan Vogelsang, 82, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 in Sherman, TX in the company of her children.

Her funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Chris Vogelsang and Rev. Lisa Perkins will officiate. There will be a reception following the service in Fellowship Hall at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will also be available during a visitation at Waldo Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm to receive friends and celebrate memories and stories of Barbara’s life. A private family burial service will precede the funeral at West Hill Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Barbara was born on April 19, 1940, in Sherman, Texas, to the late Burgess and Katherine (Kay) Yates Buchanan. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1958 where she made lifelong friends that she still had today. She attended Texas Tech University where she pledged and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. Barbara then transferred and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts. While attending the University of Texas she met the love of her life, Curry, on a blind date.

On December 29, 1962, Barbara married Curry Helmuth Vogelsang, at First Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas. As an educator, she taught middle school math in Austin and Wichita Falls. The family moved to Sherman in 1970. After having children, she transitioned from being a teacher to focusing her energy on her home and raising children. Barbara later became a Realtor and loved serving her clients while working for Davis Realtors and Dean Gilbert Realtors. Barbara was an elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church and served her Lord and church family in many areas. She was very active in the community being involved with the Sherman Service League, Needlework Guild, Sherman Antique Club, Rejebian book club, Shakespeare Club, and as an avid bridge player was a part of several bridge groups. In her early years, she enjoyed playing tennis and could always be found volunteering in schools and her children’s activities. Barbara loved the performing arts and routinely attended musicals, plays, symphonies, and music events. She loved being with friends, whether at her monthly supper club or other events and occasions. Barbara was the heart of her family and loved spending time attending games, performances, plays, concerts of her children and grandchildren. She would always be cheering, celebrating, and encouraging them all. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her family and friends in her home. As Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of over 56 years. She is survived by two sons; Curry Vogelsang, Jr. and wife Andrea of Prosper, Chris Vogelsang and wife Lora of McKinney, and one daughter, Katie Vogelsang Stubblefield and husband Sam of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Drew Vogelsang and wife Lauren of Round Rock, TX; Emma Morgun and husband Phillip of Louisville, KY, Ana Vogelsang of Louisville, KY, Will, Ethan, and Adelie Vogelsang of McKinney, Jackson Stubblefield of Dallas, Rhett Stubblefield of Ft Worth, and Graham Stubblefield stationed in San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her brothers, Burgess Buchanan, Jr. and wife Pat of Austin and John Buchanan and wife Kathie of
