SGLY: Fighting yourself

For the past several weeks, I have noticed something gnawing at me. I brushed it off as a temporary glitch until I realized it was not so temporary. Everywhere I went, I was holding a mixed bag of emotions that were fighting against one another.

At the movies: Don’t Worry Darling Review

As Don’t Worry Darling begins, 1950s housewife Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) is playing a drinking game with her husband Jack (Harry Styles) and their assorted friends. There are laughs a-plenty at this shindig and, combined with just how passionate the sex life of Alice and Jack is, seems to indicate that everything is blissful in their life living in the company town known as Victory, California. Slowly but surely, though, Chambers begins to feel something is amiss. Maybe it’s some of the words she hears over the radio spoken by Frank (Chris Pine), the leader of this community. Maybe it’s the flashes of weird blackand- white imagery that spark in her head. Maybe it’s the inexplicable plane crash on the outskirts of town that nobody else remembers. Whatever it is, Chambers becomes more and more convinced something is wrong here, despite every nearby man, and even her lady pals, telling her not to worry.

Good Morning: Fall is here, but its still hot

Those who are planning to attend Sherman’s Arts Fest this weekend might want to stock up on sunscreen and water. Set to take place just days before the meteorological beginning of fall, the yearly celebrations of all things art will be greeted with high temperatures in the low 90s.

Support North Texas giving day

Grayson County is growing. We see new housing developments going up everyday. We hear the stories of industries coming to town and expansions to the infrastructure of our community. This is truly wonderful. However, residents must not only welcome this new wealth and opportunity to our County, but those experiencing the benefits of this growth must help be a bridge for opportunities to those most in need.

Respect for Marriage Act

The American public overwhelmingly supports marriage equality. More than 70 percent believe samesex marriage should be legal, according to Gallup, and a bipartisan bill codifying these protections easily passed the House, with support from 47 Republicans. So it’s disappointing the Respect for Marriage Act is facing inexplicable pushback in the Senate. We urge conscientious Republican senators to work across the aisle to pass a measure that is popular, common- sense and, above all, moral.
