Remembering Dr. Hicks

I relay a lot of information about my youth in Sherman, but there are eight years before of which are mostly unaccounted for in my writing. The last three years were in Carrollton, a metrocrest suburb of the Dallas Metroplex.

The new drug to treat ALS

Few diseases are as cruelly debilitating as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). But a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee this week gave patients a glimmer of hope by backing a new treatment that can slow their decline and provide precious more time to live.

Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” “Chas” Fredrick Mudgett

Fredrick Mudgett Services for Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” “Chas” Fredrick Mudgett, 59, of Denison, will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, Texas. Chris Vickrey will officiate. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Charlie passed away on Monday, September 12, at his home. Charlie was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1963, to Donald and Sally Sherman Mudgett. He was one of nine children: Steve, Roger, Debbie, Troy, Todd, Ted, Dara, and Lydia. Charlie was raised in Northbrook, Illinois, eventually moved to Texas and then graduated from Sherman High School in 1982. He went to school to study construction management and graduated from Waco Tech. Charlie then began his career in construction in Sherman and the surrounding areas. He married Michelle Vick and they had two sons, Keaton and Jordan. Charlie remarried in 2000 to Shannon Blizard and they gained a daughter, Jennings, and had a daughter, Amber. Charlie was an extremely hard-working man. He loved his family and spent as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren. He loved music and played his guitar every night! He was always able to express himself through his music. Charlie was never judgmental towards anyone, no matter how different they were in the world, he remained an advocate to everyone he met. He was always an optimist no matter the situation. Charlie knew that his family was not limited by blood. He was always compassionate and inclusive and was a great listener. Charlie had wisdom. He was a very good carpenter and an even better person. He could build a house from the ground up and everything in between. Charlie will be greatly missed in this world and by everyone who knew him. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lydia, and brother Ted Payne. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Shannon; two sons: Keaton Mudgett of Austin, and Jordan Mudgett of Sherman; two daughters
