Interim Fire Chief Billy Hartfield said the department continues to investigate the cause of fires at Southgate apartments of Travis Street. The initial fire was in the northern most building of the three-building complex Monday. On Tuesday, there was a small fire in the southern most building of the complex. Interim Sherman Fire Chief Billy Hartsfield said the exact cause of the fires is still under investigation. However, lack of any other source has led investigators to believe the fires were caused by a human. He said a person of interest was reportedly seen traveling on a bicycle near the second fire around the time the fire was reported. Jerrie Whiteley/ Herald Democrat
